i'm gonna get my fluffy ferret!!

after my disappointment about not getting that angora ferret, i couldn't just give up there. i searched and searched and searched for hours to find another breeder in the us. finally, i came upon a webpage where some mentioned meeting an angora breeder at some point. i emailed them asking about this breeder. i doubted i would get a response, but much to my surprise, i did. they told me of a breeder, giving me her phone number and email address. guess where this breeder was located? OREGON!! here in oregon city, about 20 minutes away from where i live. is that the most amazing thing ever, or what?

so i emailed this breeder, and lucky me... she had one angora left to sell from this breeding season. "bongo," a three month old male. he was only 300 dollars. that's less than half the price of one of those angoras from north carolina (including shipping.) i asked if she would hold him for a deposit, because i wanted to get the ferret cage in this room we're making built first. three ferrets would be too much ferret smell for this little room. even two is really pushing it.

so we went to meet him today and pay the deposit. this lady also runs the oregon ferret shelter, so that's where we went. it was a somewhat big house that she used for the shelter. we got there at the same time as someone else, who was adopting a shelter ferret. she got her going on looking at the ferrets, while we waited in the living room.

a big giant mastiff dog kept us company, along with several cats. the dog was awesome. he was huge, had the biggest head, and was just extremely friendly. the cats were all very friendly too. they all came over to me as i began petting them. i could tell that they were healthy and well taken care of, because their coats were very soft and silky, their eyes were bright, and they were friendly. that was a good sign.

when she called us back, we walked through a room with two large cages of birds. one held many finches, the other held many parakeets. then we walked into one of two large ferret rooms. there sure were A LOT of ferrets! from what i could tell, they appeared healthy and happy.

she walked to a cage and pulled out a fuzzy ferret and handed him to me. it was interesting. angora ferrets are one of those animals that look like they'll be soft, but then really aren't. he held still for a few minutes, as i looked him over. he had a cute face. he was a dark color, she called it dark chocolate, which is basically the same as dark sable. his fur was about two inches long, and she said that it will probably be around 4 inches long when he gets older. i had wanted to ask to see his parents, to see their size and fur length, but of course i forgot. looks like he's gonna be a big boy though. i'll ask next time when we pick him up.

as we talked, he became squirmy, as ferrets typically do. he also began biting me. young ferrets usually bite. frisky did when he was young, and my new ferret (who i've named yoshi, but the way) still bites a bit. it was a little awkward, though, standing there talking, as he was biting me. finally she took him and put him in a lage cage with his buddies so that he could play.

we walked back into the bird room, as she wrote a receipt. my dad says he saw three more mastiffs in the backyard, and i met more cats. i kinda liked the place. it was like...animal world. or something.

so, we're gonna go back in two weeks to take him home. i am very excited.

also... i got a letter today from my sponsored child, kristine. that was very exciting too!
