about my new puppy

Saturday, Jun. 30, 2007 | 9:06 PM

so yesterday around 7:30, we headed over to a stranger's house to buy a puppy from them. they saw us out the window as we parked in front of their house. we walked up to the open door, and waited a moment. a guy emerged from within the house with the cutest little puppy. i was enthralled. i took her and started saying, "oh, she's so cute! look at her little nose, and her little eyes... oh, you're sooo cute."

my dad was like, "do you want her?"

of course i said, "yes."

so we paid him and off we went. it was pretty quick transaction.

my dad had to go to his work for some reason. i held her as we drove there. she was nervous and shaking in my lap at first, be she relaxed after a while. when we got there, i mostly sat out in the parking lot with her. everytime i put her on the ground, she started licking it. silly puppy.

on the way home, we stopped at fred meyer. i carried her in. when we were looking at the puppy food, some lady stopped as she walked by and petted her. "how old?" she asked.

"about.."

she interruped, "eight weeks?"

"yeah."

"so cute. i used to have one."

then off she went.

when we got home, i brought her into my room, where she met the cats. the older ones pretty much ignore her, but the kitten (who i have named lolly) took to her right away. they became friends almost immediately, and began playing with each other. it was really cute!

then i introduced her to frisky. much to my surprise, they got along great. they also enjoyed playing with each other.

i didn't want to introduce her to jessie and whiley yet. i wanted them to get used to smelling her and hearing her before meeting her. i rubbed some towels on her before i went to bed, and put them in with whiley and jessie in their kennel things, so they could get used to her scent all night.

i've been using a cat carrier as a kennel for her, and i put her in it about an hour and a half before i went to bed. she would bark and whine every time i left her alone, so i figured she would bark and whine in the kennel, so i wanted to give her time to quiet down before going to bed. my plan worked pretty well. she barked for about a half hour, and then fell asleep.

i woke up around 6 am, and she started whining, so i took her outside. when i put her back, she barked for about ten minutes and fell asleep again. i woke up again at around 8 am, to the sound of her whining. i took her out again, and put her back, and again she barked for about ten minutes before quieting down. she then woke me up at 2:30, and i stayed up this time.

i decided to go ahead and introduce her to whiley and jessie, and see what happened. i first put them in their kennels, and her in hers, and just had them facing each other like this for a while. whiney whined, but he didn't bark. i was impressed. he usually barks profusely at other dogs. jessie pretty much ignored her.

i let jessie out, and she still pretty much ignored her. i took them both into the living room, and took the puppy out. jessie sniffed at her a little, but didn't show a lot of interest. i figured she wouldn't bother jessie too much. whiley was the one i was worried about.

next i let whiley out, with the puppy back in her kennel. he sniffed at her a lot and whined. after he calmed down, i took her out. when whiley met apple a long time ago, he barked like crazy and tried to bite her, so i was really careful. i was surprised how good he was. he sniffed at her, but didn't bark, and didn't bite. he did kinda snap a few times, but she was trying to play with him.

so it went really well. i still don't trust him enough to put her on the floor with him, and i'm sure it'll be a long time before i'll let them be together unsupervised. he could easily hurt her. but it went way better than i had expected, so that's good.

when my dad got home, we went to the thrift store and fred meyer. i took her along, and carried her in. the ladies at the cash register at the thrift store really liked her. one came over and petted her, asking, "what's his name?"

"she doesn't have one yet."

"where'd you get her?"

"um, from someone that was selling her." that's a lame answer, but i didn't really know how else to answer it.

"how much was she?"

"you don't want to know," my dad said.

in fred's i got stopped four times. she loved the attention. she even covered one lady's hand with puppy licks.

so i guess that's my story of my new puppy so far. i really need to think of a name soon, so i have an answer when people ask her name.
