my 21st birthday

Wednesday, Dec. 03, 2008 | 2:49 PM

so... about my birthday.

david came over on the friday before, and we had a birthday weekend trip thingy over the weekend.

on friday, we first went to the barn, before going out for pizza. we were hoping to be done with the pizza in time to make it to omsi for a laser light show thing in their planetarium, with u2 music. they weren't even done making our pizza in time, though, so we went to the radiohead one instead.

after that, i was wanting some chocolate, so we went out for dessert to this crepe place thingy. i had a chocolate fudge brownie one.

we then went home and played with some dry ice that we had earlier gotten from the store. it's pretty cool stuff.

it was getting late at this point, so we set out to find a place to spend the night. david had set up a bed in the back of the van, which we were planning to sleep in after finding a place to park. after settling in a winco parking lot, i realized that i had left my little backpack at the crepe thingy place. we went back there, just in time as they were closing, and got it back.

from there we drove to washington park, which was much darker than the winco parking lot. we slept there that night.

the next morning, we went to my house for a bit before heading out to our desination: hood river. we drove there through the columbia river gorge, between washington and oregon. we stopped at some waterfalls, and also a place called the vista house, which overlooks the river and and stuff.

after finding our motel in hood river, we went to eat at (of course) a pizza place.

"it's your 21st birthday," david had said while we were at the motel,"i think you should indulge in some adult beverages."

so, after eating, we went to safeway and picked something out. the guy at the register stopped us though, because even though david was the one buying it, he wanted to see my id as well. of course it wasn't quite my birthday yet, so we had to leave empty handed.

we then went to washington, to avoid the rules of the olcc, which david says is evil. but to be safe, i didn't go in with him this time when we went to buy it.

on our way back, we got pulled over by a cop. apparently david had been driving 10 miles over the speed limit, and got a speeding ticket. this was very disappointing to him, which i felt really bad about after i realized how much it meant to him.

back at the motel, i was sad for a while, but made myself be happy again because i didn't want to mess up the rest of the night.

i'll choose not to write about the rest of that night, but i'll say it was pretty fun.

the next morning, i didn't feel sick, since david limited my intake. we got up just about 10 minutes before the time for free breakfast ended, so i had to pull myself out of bed immediately and get ready in like two minutes. we then headed down the restaurant, where i had some french toast and sausage.

after we got our stuff packed up and back in the van, we headed out to mt. hood, our destination being timberline lodge. we stopped a few times on the way, so i could take pictures of the mountain as it got larger and larger.

when we arrived, we walked up it a little way, before going back down and checking out the lodge. the restuarant prices there were pretty high, so in our hunger we left and ate at a cheaper place in government camp.

after eating, we went home. david had been sick during the trip, and increasingly getting worse. he was also very tired, so we went to bed soon after getting back to my house.

i woke up around 4:30 am, to find him sitting at my computer, almost in tears from the pain in his throat. i attempted to comfort him as best i could, and went with him to the hospital, where he unfortunately did not get prescribed any good pain medicine. it wasn't exactly how i imagined spending the morning of my 21st birthday, but i wanted to be there for him.

we got back to my house 7:40, and laid in my bed until 9:50. i was still trying to comfort him, but fell asleep. i'm not sure if he fell asleep or not.

at 9:50 he got up and went home, to get to class at 11. i continued to sleep until about 2.

so then i had my birthday with my parents, where i opened gifts and ate cake and all that. the day wasn't bad, but pretty boring compared to the weekend.

thankfully, last i heard from david, he is getting better.

so... that's how my birthday went. pictures will be soon to follow.
