downtown with david

Sunday, Jul. 27, 2008 | 4:11 PM

so david and i went downtown together last tuesday. i'd like to write about every little detail, but considering that we were out for about 12 hours, that would just take too long. so here's a summary...

we wanted to have more time, so i came up with the brilliant idea of sneaking out early in the morning before my parents woke up. i figured they would just think i was sleeping, and never know i'd gone anywhere. i left around 6 am, and waited at the park for about an hour.

after he arrived, we set off for the max station, where we bought our tickets and waited for the train. for some reason, i was very nervous and uncomfortable on the ride down there.

we started off at the pioneer courthouse square, or, "the brick place." from there we went to a very strange donut place, and then ate outside of a park where you have to pay get in. when we were finished, we went to a chunk of a park and climbed around on some little kid play equipment. from there we went to powell's bookstore.

while we were in the bookstore, i got a call from my dad, asking me where i was. apparently bubble had told on me. she was barking in my room, and alerted my mom to the fact that i wasn't in there. i called her and told her everything. that wasn't exactly how i'd been planning on telling my parents about david.

after the bookstore, we set out to go to a pizza place, and stopped at some whole food store on the way. i wanted some water, but they didn't have any refrigerated water there. we took a bottle to a frozen food aisle, and david quickly tossed it in and walked away. i began to laugh as i followed him, and an employee nearby gave me a funny look. as i walked away, i turned and saw him looking to see what we'd done in that aisle. it was so funny.

after getting some dates that he wanted me to try, we grabbed my water, and went to pay for the stuff. when i was asked by the cashier if i wanted a bag, i hesitated in my answer and looked up at david. i then said, "sure," at exactly the same time that he said, "no."

outside the store, he tried to get me to try a date and some ginger stuff. i was very hesitant.

we then rode the bus down to the pizza place, where i got a slice of pepperoni pizza and used an extremely colorful bathroom. when we were done there, we rode the bus back down to the square area, where we then went inside of the pioneer courthouse.

they had a little guestbook there, along with a pen attached to a very fun chain. in the comments section david wrote, "fantastic view from the weaseldome!" (don't ask.) i wrote, "david can cross his eyes." it was random.

there's a place on the top of the courthouse that's like a circular room with big windows that show a view of the surrounding city. although it was pretty hot in there, it was a cool place.

after that, we went into some different places, including a building with windows on the outside, but not on the inside. we took the elevator up to the 5th floor, and then rode the escalators down. while doing this, i finally had the opportunity to try to walk up the down escalator. i wasn't very good at it, but david was.

after going into the different places, we made our way to the park by the river. we laid down in the grass for a while. my feet were hurting from all of the walking, and i was very tired. neither david or i had gotten any sleep the night before.

after laying in the grass, we threw the squidgie for a bit before heading down to the gelato place. they were pretty much out of chocolate gelato, so i got caramel. it was good, but nothing beats chocolate. david agreed with me that gelato is a lot better than ice cream.

i used the bathroom there, and i couldn't figure out how to lock the door, so i got walked in on. luckily, i was only brushing my hair at the time, but it was still very awkward and embarrassing. i went out and told david, "we need to leave right now."

after that, we headed back. my dad called me and got angry at me for not being home when i told him i would. he yelled at me, and it was hard to not cry on the train on the way home. when we got back, david and i walked to home depot, so my mom could meet him. i was worried that this would scare him, but it went ok.

back at home, i had to face my dad's wrath. it was worth it though, because i had the most fun that day than i'd had since my last birthday.

here's the first chunk of pictures...
