gerbils and mice

Monday, Jun. 25, 2007 | 4:10 PM

the gerbils were really cute. they were easy to take care of. they don't drink much water, so less coming in means less going out, so their cage only needed to be cleaned about once every two weeks. it was very easy to clean. it didn't get all sticky and stinky like the rat cages used to. all i had to do was dump it. i didn't have to scrub it. they inhaled cardboard extremely rapidly, and helped our garbage to not get full of little boxes. they were somewhat friendly. i liked them, and i would definitely recommend them as a good and easy to care for pet.

there was one flaw though. they would dig in the corners... constantly! dig, dig, dig, dig, DIG!! at first it was sorta cute. then it started to get annoying. i hoped i would get used to it... but i didn't. i'd sit here all night with this rapid digging going on about two feet away from me. i'd hit the cage, and it would stop them momentarily, and then they'd start again. it drove me crazy sometimes.

i'd often look in at them, and think to myself... i'd rather have mice. finally i came to the conclusion, why then, do i have gerbils and not mice? i have them for my enjoyment, but i wasn't really enjoying them, so why have them?

so last monday, i think it was, we took them to the pet store. some people think they are cute, and take them home, and hopefully take good care of them. here are the last pictures i took of the babies...

the next day, i went and got four mice. i really like them a lot. i like watching them play... haha, and so do the cats.
